Things That Make You Say WTF?!: Courtney Love Interprets "Jeremy" By Pearl Jam

You all know how I feel about Courtney Love, but this one was too terribly good to pass up. In this epic fail of a video, Love interprets Jeremy, a classic Pearl Jam cut, for the webonauts to enjoy (read: cringe). I did say that she interprets it since I can't in my right mind consider this singing.

I highly encourage you to watch the "hole" video...it's so awful and hilarious at the same time. The 3:00 mark is in my opinion the pinnacle of this performance. Courtney needs a serious "Old Yellering" as she clearly has rabies or is clinically insane.

Sound off on this debaucherous spectacle in the comments .

Friday Flashback - UK Pretty Boy Garage Edition

Craig David – Fill Me In

Do you guys remember Craig David?  Whatever happened to this guy??

The Brit took the North American music scene by storm back around 2000-2001 with his soulful croon and boyish good looks on his debut album Born To Do It.

"Fill Me In," the album's first single, blended R&B with the “Garage” (also known as 2-Step) sound that was blowing up in the UK at the time (Garage is pronounced like it rhymes with "carriage")

I remember so many girls loving him off back then .... it was pretty annoying to tell you the truth!

I know he put out a couple more records after his debut, but not much has been heard from him in recent years.  Reports indicate that a new record may surface this year.

We shall see...

UPDATE: OS 2.0 is available now! Go to settings (cog wheel in top right corner) on your Playbook, select Software Updates and press Check for Updates. The update will appear and should be about 400 MBs.

(Photo via mobilesyrup.com)
Word on the street is that the Blackberry Playbook OS upgrade to 2.0 is coming February 21st at 4:01 a.m. For those of you that own the device (I know I'm not the only one), this is welcome news as a truckload of new features are to be included. This will be newly minted CEO Thorsten Heins first major play and he will need to deliver this new software by the end of February at the latest or face the wrath of every media outlet, Blackberry nation included. As we patiently await its availability, here are the new bells and whistle that will bring the Playbook to the next level (hopefully).

Hip Hop Mafioso Turf War: Team Money VS Team Throne

Of all the beefs in the Hip Hop game right now, the Lil Wayne VS Jay-Z beef is proving to be the most interesting. Both sides have thrown jabs at each other, but no one has thrown a knock out punch. So, I'll do what P&B do and break it down with an analysis of these 2 crews to see who's Capo dei capi and who's the paisano:

These are the first words uttered by Mr. Shawn Carter as he takes the stage for what will turn out to be an exclusive, intimate performance.

Justin Vernon Jams Out With The Legendary Roots Crew On Late Night With Jimmy Fallon

(photo via thesteamengine.net)
In this week's edition of "Why the hell haven't I seen Bon Iver live yet?!", Justin Vernon drops by the Jimmy Fallon show to jam out with the Roots. I mentioned last week that I loved his performance on SNL, and that I really wanted to see Vernon and Co. play "Perth" instead of "Beth/Rest". Well, I got my wish a week later and it was without a doubt worth the wait.

Do yourself a favor and check out the amazing collabo (take note Grammy Awards) that didn't make the broadcast after the jump.

Paqman's Top 5 J Dilla Produced Cuts

(Photo via listenrecovery.wordpress.com)
It's been said many times, but needs to be said again. J Dilla's influence on hip hop was massive. Up until he passed away, Dilla was pumping out memorable production on some amazing tracks. So, in his honour here are my top 5 fave Jay Dee produced songs without any commentary, because these songs stand on their own and don't need my 2 cents:

Calling An Audioble: A Place To Bury Strangers

Did I ever mention that I love streaming services? To me, they're all about music discovery where you'll find a lot of junk. And on occasion, a gem. Enter: A Place To Bury Strangers. The Brooklyn three piece has been kicking it since 2001 and are still going strong. My introduction comes in the form of their new EP, Onwards To The Wall.

Busted: Michael Jackson VS Ancient Egyptian Sculpture

(Photo kinda via michael-jackson.wikia.com and artknowledgenews.com)
Chicago's Field Museum has a very familiar looking Egyptian bust. The resemblance to the Leader of the Jackson 5 is mind blowing and remarkable. The bust has been part of the permanent collection since 1899 thanks to collector Edward Ayer, who spearheaded the Field Office's foundation.

The statue is dated between 1550 BC to 1050 BC, which is know as the New Kingdom Period, and actually depicts a woman. So the question is: Did the King of Pop get inspired by this artifact for his look? According to the museum, Jackson never passed through the joint and didn't see his Egyptian twin.

New Black Keys' Video: "Gold On The Ceiling"

When it comes to their music or otherwise, The Black Keys can be a divisive band around these parts. Evidence of this being shown by Paq's previous post on the group.

I, however, am diggin' the quality of their new video for 2nd single "Gold On The Ceiling," taken from their latest LP El Camino.

I can't tell you the last music video that I've actually liked.  I almost feel like the music video is a dead artform.  In fact, despite being a fan of their studio albums and live shows, I've never really enjoyed The Keys' previous videos either. To me, they have this certain awkward clumsiness to them that I'm just not feelin'.

But this latest clip focuses mostly on the band in live performance; a good portion of it is footage taken from their record release show at Webster Hall in NYC earlier this year.

It's so interesting to see a band hit a point in their career when it dawns on them that "hey, we're gettin' pretty big now, aren't we?" and I think this video captures that feeling.

Sampling Is Stealing!: 80's Mini-Doc Explores Song Creation In Hip Hop

(Photo via avforums.com)
If you're anything like Turnbull and me, you love samples in hip hop songs and exploring their origins. Digging through liner notes and Wikipedia, tracking down the original cut and finding the part that was used. It's become such a staple in this genre that it would be hard to picture hip hop without it.

Dr. Integrity or: How I Learned To Stop Hating and Love Brian Burke

(Photo via hockeydraft.ca)
I was watching George Stroumboulopoulous Tonight on CBC a few nights ago and I experienced a revelation. Brian Burke, President and General Manager of your Toronto Maple Leafs, had a sit down with the talk show host and after his interview, I realized that I don't hate him. I might actually almost love that man. Here's the reason why I had a change of heart (but not allegiance).

Subban Takes Out Larsson With Huge Hit; Players Show Respect After The Fact

(Photo via montrealgazette.com
P.K. Subban has been dogged all season for his sub-par play and bonehead actions on the ice. On this edition of "This Is How You Do It", Subban wipes out Devils rookie Adam Larsson with a clean shoulder-to-chest hit.  Larsson slides into the boards and is in obvious pain. He left the game due to a bruised back.
