Smashing Out The (re)Issue: Pumpkins Release Deluxe Editions Of Gish And Siamese Dream

SP circa 1991 (Photo via htbackdrops.com)
The Smashing Pumpkins Billy Corgan decided to jump on the reissue bandwagon this year with the re-release of his band's first 2 studio albums, Gish and Siamese Dream. How old are those records? It's Gish's 20th birthday and 18th for Siamese Dream. Enter: starting to feel old.

Both albums have been remastered and repackaged on the deluxe for all the Pumpkin heads. The box sets include the original albums re-polished, a disc of mostly unreleased material from the vaults and a previously unavailable live DVD from the the Metro in Chicago ('91 for Gish and 93 for Siamese). For all of the viewphoric folks, there will be some new pics of the band from that period in their history. In addition to all of this goodness, Billy Corgan has added commentary to the liner notes for every track. If the comments are anything like this....

Corgan describing the band's sonic mission:

"...to find a synthesis of an alternative idealism combined with classic rock musical values, and then somehow take those things into the mainstream in a subversive way."

...It should be a geeked out stroll down pretentious lane.

If you can't wait until December 5th, head on over to smashingpumpkins.com to get your pre-order on. The deluxe CD-DVD packages will run you $30, $11.99 for the remastered album MP3 download and vinyl for $22.99. All pre-orders come with an instant download of 4 tracks (the 8-track demo of "Drown," "Suicide Kiss Geek (no vox)," "Barb Wire" and "Rhinoceros Version 2,") to hold you over until the official release.

I also recommend that you join the Smashing Pumpkins Record Club for some great free downloads. Drop your deets below to get in on the Corganated fun.

Siamese Dream is one of my fave albums from the 90s (if not all time) and I'm looking forward to getting reacquainted with it after it's makeover. It's one of those listen from "beginning to end" albums for me. This is unfortunately a rarity these days.
