Wherein Lupe Fiasco Can find No Love in this House - "Lasers" Review: the P&B BBM Chat

We here at P&B love technology. We both use Blackberry Messenger like crazy, so why not show our deep conversations to the world! This is a first in the Blogosphere (we think). Here it is: The P&B BBM Chat.

Paqman: Are you feeling the new Lupe?
Turnbull aka Tza: No not at all. Disappointed actually
Paqman:  Disappointed is the right word. What the hell happened? A lot of folks out there are digging it. I don't get it.
Turnbull aka Tza: I think lyrically speaking, he swung for the fences on this album. Dude's always tackling serious subject matter on his track...this album's no different....War on Terror, Barack, Economy, etc
Turnbull aka Tza: I don't mind the cut with Trey Songz either...nice beat to it...has a good party-bounce to the beat. And I do like the way he flipped the Modest Mouse "Float On" sample on "The Show Goes On". But my main issue with this record are the beats....whack. Where's the boom-bap in hip hop nowadays?
Paqman: Where is that boom bap? It left when the record label kicked it out onto the street on its ass!
Paqman: No word if a lie, I listened Out of my Head 5 times today. That track is straight up hot and would've been a great first single.
Paqman: Funny that I didn't put 2 and 2 together with the Modest Mouse sample. Maybe I was too overwhelmed with the weakness to pay it any attention.
Paqman: Question: is the record label transforming Lupe into B.O.B.? EVERY song has a vocal hook on it...mostly from female vocalists.
Turnbull aka Tza:The hooks are what ruined the album for me...especially on "State Run Radio". Is that Good Charlotte singin' on that??? Terrible bro.
Turnbull aka Tza:I felt like I needed to be 13 yrs old to listen to that track...maybe I'm just old.
Turnbull aka Tza:Old balls.
Paqman: Lol! I think we are both too old for that. I expected way more from Fiasco. Maybe too much. So happy I listened to this through Rdio.
Turnbull aka Tza: I had such high hopes for Lupe after his first record in 06...I played "Kick Push" on repeat like for weeks! I didn't like the album after that one, but this takes disappointment to a whole other level
Turnbull aka Tza: I think he's better than the songs he's putting out. Maybe he should change rec labels? I know he had to fight to get them to release it...perhaps they were on to something...
Paqman: I think they fought to release this! So sad
Paqman: He should sign with Ye and G.O.O.D. Music. Or head on down to Def Jam
Paqman: I thought The Cool was a nice album and that he was on the right path. Lasers crashed into the ditch.
Paqman: Just caught wind of this. Found a remix of "Airplanes" originally recorded by B.O.B. featuring Hayley Williams with Lupe dropping the verses. Coincidence or am I clairvoyant?
Turnbull aka Tza: Overall, the best I can give Lupe's new album is 5 out of 10, and I even think I'm being generous with that!
Paqman: On the strength of that Trey Songz cut, I think 4 out of 10 is acceptable for Lasers, but truly unacceptable from Lupe. I hope for his sake that he picks up his game on the next one.
Turnbull aka Tza: Word. I concur.
